چکیده

Transactions in real-time database systems should be scheduled considering both data consistency and timing constraints. In addition, a real-time database must adapt to changes in the operating environment and guarantee the completion of critical tasks. The effects of scheduling decisions and concurrency control mechanisms for real-time database systems have typically been demonstrated in a simulated environment. In this paper we present a functional real-time relational database manager, called MRDB, which provides an operational platform for research in real-time database issues. Current research issues involving the development of runtime estimates for use in scheduling decisions, temporal consistency characteristics, and our efforts in using these are also discussed.

Multiple Representation Databases to Support Visualisation on Mobile Devices

This paper presents some applications of mobile map technology utilising an MRDB (multi-resolution/-representation database). An MRDB can be described as a spatial database, which can be used to store the same real world phenomenon at different levels of thematic and geometric detail. Additionally the corresponding objects in the different levels are linked. Case studies of utilising an MRDB in...

Junction Modeling in Vehicle Navigation Maps and Multiple Representations

Generalization is certainly one of the most important current issues in cartography, with particular emphasis being placed on its automation. This paper considers the automation of generalization applied to road networks primarily urban roads. In this context car navigation is considered as main subject. As Timpf et al. (1992) stated car navigation require data at a wide range of scales and at ...

Matching Cartographic Objects in Spatial Databases

Nowadays cartographic objects of different resolutions are hold in different coexisting databases. This implies an extensive amount of work for updating an object in all resolutions. One way to reduce this is to build a multi-resolution database which holds and links different representations of the real-world objects and allows to automatically pass updates to all linked representations (requi...

Data Enrichment for Adaptive Generalisation

This paper presents the research framework for a new project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, called DEGEN (Data Enrichment for automated map GENeralisation) which supports two PhD projects. With a focus on thematic cartography (GIS maps, web mapping, location-based services) and the data types prevailing in these map types (polygonal subdivisons, points of interest, etc.), the ...

Database Environment for Fast Real-time Simulation of Urban Traffic Networks with ATMIS

This projects develops the environment for using the ATMIS simulation software developed under previous PATH projects (MOUs 39, 84 and 170) for real-time traffk simulation and scenario analysis with feedback from the real urban network. DYNASMART simulation model was developed during the MOU-39 research, and was augmented with a graphical user-interface and display during the MOU-84 research. H...
